PEORIA —The deadline for seniors to select a Medicare plan is Wednesday. It’s also an opportunity for those with diabetes or a heart condition to select a special-needs plan.

“Special-needs plans are often misunderstood by the public. They think that special plans are a costly alternative to regular Medicare coverage, but they’re part of the whole Medicare package available to people 65 and older,” said Lauren Monstrastelle, community relations manager for Care Improvement Plus, a Baltimore, Md.-based firm that is providing service to Illinois for the first time this year.

“We saw a need in Illinois for a Medicare plan offering better choices to those who are chronically ill and underserved,” said Frederick Dunlap, CEO of the XLHealth, the company that owns and operates Care Improvement Plus.

Medicare advantage plans, sometimes called “Part C” or “MA Plans,” are offered by private companies approved by Medicare. Information on these plans can be found at medicare.gov Read More
